The custom-made LEGO GMC Hummer EV has almost as many features as a real pickup truck.
The debut of the GMC Hummer EV marked the return of the Hummer nameplate, as well as GM’s first electric pickup. It’s a very important vehicle for the company, and it seems to be so popular that one man created his own functioning Lego model of it.
The pickup was created by a hard-working YouTube blogger who also assembled detailed Lego versions of the Jeep Wrangler and BMW i8. The “toy” Hummer looks quite decent. All proportions are correct, details such as the wheels, headlights, and grille are accurate, and the pickup even has a removable roof. Other features include a detailed interior, a multi-function rear door, and a hydraulic sunshade.
But perhaps the most impressive thing about this model is its functionality. First, it works and is powered by its own electricity. It also has a working coil-spring suspension and a height-adjustable “pneumatic” suspension, which is raised and lowered with a set of gears. Last but not least, the miniature Hummer even has the original Crab Walk feature and supports both modes: all four wheels rotate in one direction or each axle rotates in the opposite direction.
Overall, the detail, technology, and creativity that went into this model is amazing. We can only hope that Lego will create a model that we could buy and build ourselves, and thankfully, this Hummer is based on Lego Ideas, which means that it can become a reality.
